Signs You May Have a Tooth Broken Below the Gumline
Having a cracked tooth is no fun at all; it hurts to eat, and you are constantly in pain/discomfort. If you have any concerns that you might have a broken/cracked tooth, here are some signs to look for.

Pain While Eating and Brushing

This will likely be your first indicator that something is wrong. You bite into a sandwich and there is a sharp pain in your teeth. While this can just be tooth sensitivity, it could also very well be a sign of a broken tooth. Furthermore, you might not initially feel pain as you are biting something, but as you release the bite that is when you might start to feel it. You can test this by biting down on something that will not break/tear and release.
Another sign is if there is a pain when having something sweet, hot, or cold. Because the sensitive insides of your teeth are now exposed, extreme temperatures are going to be painful. If these symptoms apply to you, schedule an appointment with us. Until then, choose liquid alternative food or eat very soft foods such as salmon, mashed potatoes and soup.
You might also experience pain while brushing your teeth, if this is the case, then it is advised to stop. Delaying dealing with a cracked tooth will eventually make it worse and it allows bacteria to enter the inner sections.

Swelling Gums

Gums are a sensitive part of the mouth and when it comes to a cracked/broken tooth, you might start to notice some swelling happening near the tooth that has been affected. If you are experiencing this symptom, and it is only around a certain area of your gums, you may be affected by a cracked tooth.
If you have a broken tooth below your gumline, do not hesitate to give us a call. Schedule an appointment to let us help.
